Upcoming stories and events
I’ve packed in a lot of volunteer time in the last few weeks and the stories will be dropped between now and the end of March. Here’s what to look for on Facebook, Twitter, and (hint) subscribing:
Senior Services of Alexandria – I did a Meals on Wheels project with them last Friday. Always good to know that our elderly are well-nourished. When you live alone it’s hard to eat right and eat well (I have 15+ years of my own experience to attest to that) and Meals on Wheels is a godsend.
New Hope Housing – Volunteering with kids in transition on February 20.
RunningBrooke Foundation – Brooke Curran runs a leisurely 12 miles a day (ok, I exaggerate, but not by much) so she’s in tip-top shape to run a marathon a month for the five charities she supports. I’m training with her next week. An ambulance will be on standby.
Sasha Bruce Youthworks - This nonprofit has a huge residence program for kids who live in an unsafe home and/or are runaways. They have big community outreach program too and I helped with a Girl Scout project last week. The biggest story here, though, was the bus ride.
Joseph House – like Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying in Calcutta, Joseph House is a hospice for the homeless and addicted dying of AIDS and cancer. I have been invited to spend four hours to “be” with them. I’m really looking forward to this.
