Family Game Night
This link, Family Game Night Grant Template, will allow you to start a Family Games Night in your own community.
Family Games Night provides age-appropriate board and card games, pizza, soda, and accompanying paper products for at-risk families who live in shelters or who are nominated by a social service agency. Families begin the evening by participating in icebreakers then the games are given to each family (if possible, an adult family member selects the game in advance). Volunteers should be ready to assist families with game instruction, rules, and comprehension. The program allows families to take home the game at the completion of the evening, with their promise to play the game to together as a family for at least one hour each week. Participants enjoyed refreshments, games, and most importantly, quality time spent with loved ones. Since then Family Games Night has been successfully implemented in Newport News, VA; Manassas, VA; Robins, GA; Honolulu, HI and Montgomery, AL, Manassas, VA and Alexandria, VA.
The grant template, when complete by a social service director, is an easy tool to explain the program and cost when requesting funds to incorporate the program into their family-based activities.
