Family Games Night
This link, Family Game Night Grant Template, will allow you to start a Family Games Night in your own community.
Family Games Night provides age-appropriate board and card games and snacks for at-risk families who live in shelters or who are referred by a social service agency.
In summary, before the event each family selects their favorite game which is purchased by the sponsor. The night of the event, families are given the game to play. Volunteers may want to assist families with game instruction, rules, and comprehension, but it is not necessary.
The families may keep the game home after the event is over, with their promise to play the game to together as a family for at least one hour each week. (That is not monitored, of course, but the kids love to shout “yes” when the program sponsor asks them if they’ll play the game with their families).
Families enjoy quality time spent with each other in a stress-free environment. Family Games Night has been successfully implemented in Newport News, VA; Manassas, VA; Robins, GA; Honolulu, HI and Montgomery, AL, Manassas, VA and Alexandria, VA.
The grant template, when complete by a social service director, is an easy tool to explain the program and cost when requesting funds to incorporate the program into their family-based activities.
